The general residence requirement is one of the eligibility criteria you must meet to apply for Australian citizenship. The residence requirement is specified in the Australian Citizenship Act 2007.

申请澳洲公民身份的一项审核资格准则就是要满足一般的留澳居留规定。2007年的澳大利亚公民法具体规定了留澳居留要求。

It is based on the length of time:

you have lawfully lived in Australia

you have spent outside Australia

you have been a permanent resident.

基于以下时间的长短：

你合法地居住在澳大利亚境内的时间

你在澳大利亚境外的时间

你永久居留的时间

What is the change?

变化在哪里？

From 1 July 2010 all citizenship applicants will need to meet this residence requirement at the time they apply for Australian citizenship.

从2010年7月1日起，所有澳大利亚公民申请在他们递交申请的时候都将需要符合留澳居留要求。

You must have been living in Australia on a valid Australian visa for 4 years immediately before applying, including 1 year as a permanent resident, and

你必须在递交申请之前，已经持有有效的澳大利亚签证在澳洲境内居住了4年。（其中包括一年的永久居留）

You must not have been absent from Australia for more than 1 year during the 4 year period, including no more than 90 days in the year immediately before applying.

四年内，你不能离开澳洲超过一年，并且在申请澳大利亚公民身份的前一年不能离境超过90天

On 1 July 2010 the transitional arrangements will cease. On and after 1 July 2010 therewill only be one general residence requirement which everyone aged 16 and over will be required to meet.

2010年7月1日，过度安排将终止，从7月1日起（包括7月1日），将只有一项一般居留要求的规定——年龄在16岁已经以上的澳洲公民申请者者必须符合。
